From a young age, Shamma has been surrounded by yachts and has spent time at sea, living on a family-owned yacht. This upbringing sparked her passion for life at sea and instilled a deep curiosity about the systems operating onboard. With her mum being her greatest support, she discovered this cadetship and encouraged Shamma to apply, knowing she would succeed and enjoy the course.

Shamma began her cadetship in September 2023 with Döhle Yachts. We aim to provide more than a just a sponsorship, also providing encouragement and an environment where cadets feel supported and are able to seek advice. She is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering at Warsash Academy. Shamma thoroughly enjoys the course and has witnessed personal growth, becoming more confident in who she is and what she aims to achieve in her career.

Through co-sponsorship with Trinity House, Shamma will gain sea time on a variety of vessels, which provides invaluable experience and knowledge. Her primary focus is to gain experience on both LNG vessels and superyachts, as she envisions these being the main areas in which she will work in the future.

In 2017, Döhle Yachts became the first yacht management company to support cadets enrolled at the prestigious Warsash Maritime Academy.  Alongside Trinity House Maritime Charity, the programme aims to offer support, structure and opportunities for young people at the beginning of their careers.
