This quarter’s business-related flight emissions have now been offset via Yacht Carbon Offset, with the supported scheme being the Pichacay Methane Capture project in Ecuador.
Pichacay Methane Capture is a small-scale power plant located in Cuenca, central-southern Ecuador. It comprises the capture of methane gas generated by decomposing domestic and commercial city waste at the landfill site. The captured methane combustion engines convert the captured gas into renewable electricity, which is delivered to the electricity grid. The methane capture reduces the site’s emissions and reduces the risk of explosion. Removing harmful gases from the immediate atmosphere lowers the health risks to inhabitants and improves living conditions directly affected neighbourhoods.
