The Döhle Group has over four thousand crew employed at sea at any time and our systems are tried, tested, robust, fit for purpose and managed by professional crew operators, so we have considerable experience in all crewing operations.
Döhle Yachts provide crew employment solutions for a large number of yachts on a global basis. We employ crew on yachts from several Flag States, on both privately and commercially registered vessels. We have a very experienced team of crew officers and payroll managers who will work together with the Captain to support and provide employment administration and advice on employment matters and regulations. All our procedures and processes comply with MLC regulations and Flag State requirements, where applicable, and we have an excellent relationship with the Flag States with which we work.
The jurisdiction from which crew are employed and paid from is important. Our crew employment, payroll and administration services are provided though companies, 100% owned by Döhle Private Clients Ltd, based outside of the EU, in order to ensure that employment is efficient and tailored specifically for the yachting community.
Our Crewing team issue either Contracts of Employment for private yachts, or Seafarer Employment Agreements (SEAs) for commercially registered yachts. We work closely with the Captain/owner’s team to finalise content and with the relevant flag state to ensure we are fully compliant with their requirements and, as applicable for Commercial Yachts, MLC regulations.
All contractual administration, including preparation and issuing of Contracts of Employment or SEAs, leave calculations, crew salary amendments, termination and extension letters and reviewing and monitoring of qualifications can be carried out. We will also liaise directly with the owner and crew member, where required, to ensure that any HR-related queries are dealt with professionally and in accordance with flag state regulations.
We have recently invested in digital signature technology and very shortly all of our crew contracts can be executed via email, significantly reducing the administration time in completing crew contracts and eliminating the cost and inconvenience of couriering employment contracts back to us.
We arrange payment of seafarer salaries on a monthly basis by SWIFT transfer to the seafarer’s personal bank account, with the option of salary payments being split between multiple bank accounts, if the seafarer so wishes. All Döhle crew will also be issued with free Multi-Currency Döhle Prepaid MasterCard for their personal use and we provide an additional option for the seafarer to have all or part of his or her monthly salary loaded directly onto this prepaid card, if required.
As part of our payroll service, we also provide the facility for the seafarer to receive their contractual salary currency in an alternative currency at commercial exchange rates, rather than standard high street FX rates, thereby reducing FX losses.
Our staff work together with the yacht’s Captain in order to prepare a comprehensive and detailed payroll invoice for the owner on a monthly basis, ensuring that payments to individual seafarers are consistent with the contractual terms, and in line with current regulations.
Once funds are received from the owner, prompt payment of the seafarers’ salaries is arranged and, in accordance with MLC regulations, automated pay slips are then generated and sent to the individual seafarer directly via email.
The Döhle card is a co-branded MasterCard which allows our crewmembers to hold up to 14 different currencies on one card, eliminating the need for multiple currency cards. Currencies are loaded at the market rate and can be done directly from the crewmember’s salary, either as one-off payments or a regular remittance from the salary for a small fee (less than the fee to transfer funds to a second bank account).
The currencies that can be held on the card include:
US Dollar – Pound Sterling – Euro – Swiss Franc – Canadian Dollar – Australian Dollar – New Zealand Dollar – Hong Kong Dollar – Polish Zloty – Japanese Yen – South African Rand – Swedish Krona – Norwegian Krone – Danish Krone.
In addition we will be able to provide the global wholesale currency market rate (e.g. the rate you see if you log onto: www.xe.com or www.oanda.com) for exchanging your money during trading hours – 8am Monday through to 6pm Friday GMT (Döhle is responsible for placing any foreign exchange trades).
Döhle are committed to providing the best service and range of products to our clients and as such we have taken the decision to subsidise the card so that no annual fee will apply to our crew whilst in Döhle employment.
